The Summer Writing Challenge, hosted by the FBCW, provided me with the opportunity to participate in weekly mentorship/accountability sessions with professional editors in a small group setting. This opportunity allowed me to ask questions without fear of judgment. Their thought-provoking probes gave me something to think about and a space to share thoughts and ideas. The Open Mic nights were encouraging and inspiring. Throughout the Challenge, having a community that understands the unique challenges writers face is something I miss within my own inner circle. I’ll definitely join the next one, as I’m continuously inspired by the Fed events and each one has me feeling that I’m finding my authentic voice as a storyteller. Momentum and the good company of others were the two aspects of the Summer Writing Challenge I benefitted from the most. Whether working on writing sprints together, or comparing notes or checking in online with mentors or each other, the camaraderie and atmosphere was friendly and inspiring. Fellow writers are good company! Opportunities in the Zoom Room, especially the Workshops, Sprints and Mentor check-ins brilliantly kept a new sense of momentum still propelling me forward, pushing me to keep re-setting and working through difficulties current work had been presenting as well as inspiring unexpected fresh directions in new material.

I had no idea a word prompt followed by a writing sprint could be so much fun and lead to results that helped me in my overall goals. It was the best summer ever and having the Tuesday accountability session with other writers and a mentor was like icing on the cake. Thank you FBCW for 2 months of accomplishments.
